AIA NY and CSA to Hold Symposium on Museum Architecture
New York, NY, January 5, 2004 – The American Institute of Architects New York Chapter (AIA NY) and Carbone Smolan Agency (CSA) will host a symposium entitled "If You Build It, Will They Come: Art's Gamble for Architectural Glory" at the Center for Architecture. The all-day event, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2004, will bring together museum directors, trustees, architects, and designers for a lively and constructive debate about the role architecture plays in developing and sustaining world-class cultural institutions.
"I became interested in the subject after working on major museum projects for years and all too often finding myself in the uncomfortable 'hot seat,' attempting to mediate and lessen the gap of expectations between architects and clients," said Ken Carbone, partner, CSA. "My goal now is to engage the parties in a dialogue that will affect positive change in the building process, leading to even better buildings and healthier institutions."
"We are thrilled to host this important event and help bring the very real issues of museum architecture to the forefront," said Calvin Tsao, AIA, Chapter Vice President for Design Excellence and principal of Tsao & McKown Architects. "Finding ways to improve the design process and benefit clients is relevant to our constituency, whether they are designing museums, corporate headquarters, hotels, or any other building that serves the public."
The program, as well as speakers and panelists, will be announced in January. For more information or to register, contact the Center for Architecture at 212.683.0023 or info@aia.org.
